  • Learning about the importance of trees in TTDI Park with a fellow parent who happens to be a Master Arborist.

A brief history

By late 2021, we were done with arranging zoom playgroups. We worried about our children missing out on critical aspects of childhood, especially the togetherness of Muslim community that is essential for the transmission of tradition. We got together at Mukha Cafe and decided to have our children wrestle and learn some Quran together. Organically a group of parents began taking their children out week after week for hiking in KL's urban lungs and Sri Bintang Park. Together they learned about the importance of trees with one father who happens to be a master arborist. They tried the Prophet's favorite foods with another mother who moonlights as a gourmet chef. They learned about Permaculture through a scavenger hunt at Urban Hijau. They fed goats on a field trip to Janda Baik, and reviewed rules pertaining to ablution in a Bukit Kiara waterfall.

An attachment village is an invisible matrix in which children mature, developing a sense of rootedness, belonging, and connection..

Building an Attachment Village

Today, we strive  to form a strong attachment village around our children where they can learn about Islam in a way that is loving and merciful. Our efforts to raise pious, strong children requires ongoing involvement of parents and siblings, aunties and uncles, and the broader community. To facilitate community-building, we invite parents and volunteers to organize activities which bring children and elders together outside of the weekend school. Please be in touch with us to learn ways to get involved.

"Many Hands Make the Work Light"

As a parent-led initiative, KL Kuttāb would not exist without the dedication and volunteer commitment of our parents. We are grateful to parents who have served us in the past and grown this community. We look forward to building a new team of parent volunteers that can help us keep tuition costs down and help the Kuttāb thrive. In particular, we are looking for parents to help with the following:
